Brazilian Photovoltaic Solar Energy Association Reveals Significant Growth in Solar Installations Across the Country – SolarQuarter

The Brazilian Photovoltaic Solar Energy Association (Absolar) has announced that distributed solar generation in systems of up to 5 MW has exceeded 29 GW of operational installed power in Brazil. This milestone signifies the widespread adoption of photovoltaic technology in homes, businesses, industries, rural properties, and public buildings, with over 3.7 million consumer units now benefiting from solar energy.

According to Absolar’s data, Brazil boasts more than 2.6 million photovoltaic systems installed on roofs, facades, and small plots of land. These installations have attracted nearly 142.5 billion reais (approximately 27.67 billion dollars) in new investments since 2012, generating over 870 thousand jobs and contributing more than 42.3 billion reais to the public coffers.

The association highlights that solar self-generation is present in 5,545 municipalities across all Brazilian states, playing a crucial role in reducing electricity costs for consumers nationwide.

Ronaldo Koloszuk, President of the Board of Directors at Absolar, emphasizes the favorable market conditions, with analysts predicting a significant drop in the final average price of solar panels in 2023, making solar systems more accessible to consumers of varying profiles.

Rodrigo Sauaia, Executive Director of Absolar, underscores the geopolitical significance of Brazil’s growth in solar self-generation, noting its positive impact on sustainability, household budgets, and the competitiveness of the country’s productive sectors.

The recent publication of guidelines by the National Energy Policy Council (CNPE) further reinforces the benefits of distributed generation. These guidelines, in compliance with Law 14,300/2022, aim to ensure a fair and transparent pricing mechanism for distributed generation, aligning with Absolar’s advocacy for a comprehensive assessment of the costs and benefits of solar self-generation.

Absolar’s study, conducted in collaboration with specialized consulting firm Volt Robotics, indicates significant net savings on electricity bills for all Brazilians, with projected savings exceeding 84.9 billion reais until 2031. The study underscores the role of distributed generation in reducing costs and improving reliability in the national electrical system.

Absolar continues to collaborate with the National Electric Energy Agency (Aneel) to advance the development of distributed generation calculations, aiming to optimize the benefits of solar self-generation for consumers nationwide.
